This chord chart is pretty mangled.
It jumps back & forth between calling it Eb & D# — it’s pretty confusing.
Also, there’s a B# in there too? haha.
Love the site, but this one is tough to follow along with
Lol, yeah this one is hard to follow… I must have been dozy when I put this one up haha!
I’ll simplify it and re-post. Let me know if you need this for a gig or something and I’ll put higher priority on reviewing it.
Thanks! Marcel
I would sincerely love it if you could clean this one up!
I love this song & want to learn it so badly!
There we go, months later the song has finally been corrected. Sorry for taking forever! Enjoy performing this amazing song – I sure do!
mg
I believe this is written out one half step higher than Elton does it. Check me on that.
Just a note: B# = C…
I just jammed it along with the recording on GYBR and it was in the same key.
Either way now that you have a reference you can transpose it into any key you would like to sing it in 🙂
My 2 cents on the chart and comments:
The final resolving chord is Eb, so it makes sense to consider Eb the key the whole song is in (this is the record key)
Therefore there should be no sharps, all flats, making the intro chord Cb/Eb. Beyond that I think the chords were all pretty close ( I prefer Fm7 to straight Fm in most places but no big deal) however in the outro I think that the A#m and D#m chords are actually Gb maj7 chords
With all that in mind, I humbly submit this version:

You are correct, The actual chord progression is Ebm, Db, Abm, Gb, Ebm
The chord spacings moved when I submitted this, but you get the idea
2 corrections: the D# in the 2nd verse is a typo.
in the outro, the 2nd-to-last “harmony” mg had a Ebm, but I thought it was Gbmaj7; I think we were both right and it is an Ebm9….basically a Gbmaj7 with an Eb Bass
BTW…thanks for a great site!
