High Flying Bird

Ab Gb/Db Db Gb/Db Db

           Ab Db
You wore a little cross of gold around you neck,
  Ab Eb
I saw it as you flew between my reason.
       Bbm Db
Like a raven in the night time when you left.
         Ab Db
I wear a chain upon my wrist that bears no name,
Ab Eb
You touched it and you wore it,
        Bbm Db
And you kept it in your pillow, all the same.

               Ab /C Db
My high-flying bird has flown from out my arms,
                     Bbm
I thought myself her keeper,
                        Eb
She thought I meant her harm,
    Db/Eb Ab
She thought I was the archer,
          /C Db
A weather man of words,
            Fm/C Bbm Db/Ab Gb Db
But I could never shoot down,
               Ab Gb/Db Db Gb/Db Db
My high-flying bird.

    Ab Db
The white walls of your dressing room are stained in scarlet red.
    Ab Eb
You bled upon the cold stone like a young man.
Bbm Db
In the foreign field of death.
Ab Db
Wouldn't it be wonderful is all I have to say,
          Ab Eb
You never closed your eyes at night and learnt to love daylight.
Bbm Db
Instead, you moved away.

C# should be written as Db (and F# should be Gb)…Db is the four chord for Ab. If it were written in G#, then C# would be the way to write it.

Thanks so very much for your efforts!

Dave, Thanks for pointing that one out. I’ve updated the transcription so it should look proper now.

This will surely decrease the amount of confusion people may have been experiencing.
